New Year, New You!!

Now that the last of the holiday lights are boxed and we wince (rather than smile) at the thought of another chocolate ...

Now that the credit bills innumerate the number of our holiday purchases rather than their quality ...

Now is the chance to reconsider our profligate habits and pledge to do something better for ourselves, for our pocketbooks and for our planet.

According to a recent Globe and Mail article the average Canadian buys 17 new outfits a year. And another recent British study indicates that our outfits are worn just seven times before being sent to a landfill. And we now know that these landfills are continuing to grow and increasingly contributing to the environmental crisis we have today.

We can’t change these facts overnight but we can do our small part and consider the consequences of our daily actions. When it comes to fashion and our daily expressions of ourselves we should consider reusing what we have, repairing what we own and buying vintage.

Now you may say to yourself, of course, she wants everyone to buy vintage. After all, I’m a small business owner of an online vintage boutique. However, I’d like to think that I live these words. I don’t always wear vintage but I was raised to use what I have and repair what I own and so, by that very nature a lot of what I have is vintage.

Let’s start our year on the right foot!! Look at the beautiful pieces of clothing that I have on my website but also explore the many websites out there that carry amazing pieces from past decades. There are some stunning outfits that are in mint condition, others that are more delicate and yet others that may need some TLC. But I promise you will not be disappointed because the quality is often exemplary and you will be doing something good for the environment … and your pocketbook.
